The Onken

The Onken takes its name from the distinctive speaker cabinet design first introduced to Japan’s ultra-fi market in the 1970s, where it quickly earned widespread acclaim among discerning audiophiles. We’ve reimagined this classic concept, reducing its scale to a more living-room-friendly form while preserving the characteristics that give it a natural, articulate, and detailed low end.

Crafted from 18 mm Norwegian Pine, the cabinet is extensively reinforced to minimise resonance. At its heart lies an 8-inch full-range driver, also sourced from Norway, chosen for its remarkable efficiency, clarity, and surprising low-frequency reach. The crossover network employs only premium-grade electrical components, ensuring nothing detracts from the coherence and musicality inherent to a single-driver design.

Every detail has been considered — including the custom steel stands, made locally from repurposed carbon steel. Each stand is precision-formed from a single sheet to create a clean, flowing silhouette, and features a 2-degree incline for optimal alignment with the seated listening position.
